# Batch Uploads

Batch uploads are for larger datasets that are not practical to upload one observation at a time.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Batch upload is currently in **beta**. The GainForest team reviews requests case by case before publishing. This is not an instant self-serve upload.
{% endhint %}

## When to use batch upload

Use batch upload when you have a larger archive or dataset, such as:

* many field photos
* survey exports, for example from KoboToolbox
* tree data, including planted, regenerated, or existing trees
* drone imagery
* structured field data that needs review

## How it works

1. **Prepare the data**\
   Pack your field photos, survey exports, tree data, drone imagery, and related files into one archive where possible.
2. **Submit the batch**\
   Upload the archive through the batch submission page.
3. **GainForest reviews the batch**\
   The team checks the data and confirms how it should be handled.
4. **GainForest suggests how to use the data**\
   The team can suggest how the data could be organized, shown, or used as part of impact reporting.
5. **Observations or files are published**\
   With the submitter’s consent, observations or files can be published to the correct account.
6. **Link to a Project**\
   After publishing, observations, files, or other records can be linked to a Project as evidence.

## Upload size

The batch upload flow is designed for larger archives. On the app, files up to **10GB** can upload from the browser, but submissions are reviewed case by case while the feature is in beta.

{% hint style="info" %}
Keep the upload page open until the upload finishes.
{% endhint %}

## Visualization and impact reporting

After reviewing a batch upload, the GainForest team can suggest how the data might be organized or presented so it becomes useful for impact reporting.

This can include helping think through:

* what the data shows
* what evidence it supports
* how it connects to a Project
* what context should be added
* how it could be shared with funders, partners, or community members

## What to prepare

Before submitting a batch, prepare:

* a clear folder or archive name
* a short description of what the data contains
* where and when the data was collected
* who collected the data
* which account or organization the data should belong to
* whether the data should be linked to an existing Project
* any notes the GainForest team needs to understand the dataset
